Meet Jessica Hicks

I am beginning my eighth year at Rocky River Elementary School.  I taught second grade for 6 years and Title 1 Reading for 1 year.  I am very excited about this school year and work hard every day to make a lasting impression in your child’s education.

I have lived in North Carolina my entire life, which is becoming very rare these days.  I was born in Charlotte and raised in Concord, NC, and graduated from Central Cabarrus High School.  From there I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  I also went back and received my Master’s in Reading Education in May 2010.  I am also a Nationally Board Certified teacher.

After leaving my family at Rocky River each day, I go home to a wonderful husband, Robert, and a very excited dog, Tipper.  We have a soon to be one year old baby named Savannah who is growing bigger and bigger everyday.  We are a very family focused family and spend our free time together visiting with and spending time with relatives and family.

Everyday I walk into my classroom knowing that I want to pass on my love for learning to your child.  I want them to explore and question things.  I seek to learn about their interests so that I can use those interests to draw them into learning the key concepts in the second grade curriculum.  Students who love learning as such a young age, will be able to conquer anything they set their mind to!  My classroom is one of love and encouragement.  We (the students and myself) spend many hours together and need to know how important t is to work together and to take car of each other.  At the end of this school year you will be amazed at how much your child has grown academically, socially, and in their independence.  Lets work together and have a great year!!
